Not when it is applied and removed properly. What adds up over time is frequent removal, since each reset means filing and acetone. The fastest damage comes from tips being pulled off at home, which takes layers of nail with it.

Q: Can I switch from Gel-X to Builder Gel?

Yes. The Gel-X is removed, the natural nail is assessed, and Builder Gel goes on at whatever length is healthy that day.

Q: Do I need to book a removal?

With Gel-X, always: every new set includes taking the old one off. With Builder Gel, only if you are coming out of it or switching systems. Staying in Builder Gel means a fill.

Gel-X is not filled. At every appointment the old set is filed down and soaked off and a fresh one goes on, which keeps the nail underneath clean and lets you change shape whenever you like. Why the rhythm matters more than the product

Neither Builder Gel nor Gel-X is hard on your nails. What asks something of them is the removal cycle: filing the product down, the acetone, and the prep for the next set. Done gently and not too often, your nails stay healthy. Done frequently or in a hurry, the nail plate gradually thins, and because a nail cannot repair itself in place, it has to grow out before it looks like itself again.

That is the quiet reason we point most guests toward Builder Gel for everyday wear. A careful fill leaves the sound product in place and touches your natural nail as little as possible, so you are not taking everything off and starting over every few weeks. It is also why the most damaging thing that happens to nails almost never happens in our chair. It happens at home, when a lifted edge gets picked or popped off, and layers of nail come with it. Most first time guests are happiest at short or medium, then go longer once they know how length feels day to day. Bring the photo you saved and your technician will tell you what will hold up for your nail bed and your week.

Length is not something you choose here. It is whatever you have grown, which is the whole point of the service. Shape is a smaller choice than it is with Gel-X: once you have some free edge, we can file it moderately toward squared, rounded, or softly tapered, within the natural shape of your nail bed. It arrives more slowly, and it is entirely your own.

Six habits that add a week

Whichever service you choose, how it holds up between visits is mostly about the small things.

1Cuticle oil every night. Flexible product lasts longer than dry, brittle product.
2Gloves for cleaning and dishes. Hot water and household chemicals loosen the seal.
3Let a tool do the prying and the scraping. Your nails will thank you for it.
4If an edge lifts, leave it alone and let us take care of it. Peeling is where nail damage begins.
5Come in every three to four weeks, and no sooner or longer than that. On schedule it is a simple fill. Sooner, and there is not enough grow out to work with. Left longer, it takes more time and more product to bring back.
6If a nail snags, lifts, or chips, send us a photo and give us a call. Our team books repairs so the right amount of time is set aside for you.
